Music: By Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov (Op. 35, 1888).

Choreography: Originally choreographed by Michel Fokine (1910); rechoreographed by George Balanchine.

Production: Scenery and costumes by Kay Nielsen.

Premiere: October 12, 1930, Royal Danish Ballet, Royal Theater, Copenhagen. Conductor: Victor Schiøler.

Cast: The Sultan, Svend Methling (actor); Sultan's Brother, Richard Jensen; Sultan's Wife, Ulla Poulsen; Sultan's Dancing Girls, 3 women; A Negro, Leif Ørnberg; A Eunuch, Storm Petersen (actor); Slave Girls; Wives; Negroes; Captives.

Note: Balanchine changed the location from the original interior scene to a Persian garden, and included actors in the cast.
