Music: By Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (final movement of Suite No. 3 for orchestra in G major, 1884).

Choreography: By George Balanchine.

Production: Scenery and costumes by Woodman Thompson. Scenery executed by Eugene B. Dunkel Studios; costumes executed by Karinska.

Premiere: November 26, 1947, Ballet Theatre, City Center of Music and Drama, New York. Conductor: Max Goberman.

Cast: Alicia Alonso, Igor Youskevitch; Anna Cheselka, Melissa Hayden, Paula Lloyd, Cynthia Riseley, Fernando Alonso, Eric Braun, Fernand Nault, Zachary Solov; 8 women, 8 men.

Note: An intensive development of the classical ballet lexicon. In 1970, incorporated (with minor revisions) as the fourth movement of the full Suite No. 3 [369], later called Tschaikovsky Suite No. 3.

Revisions: Choreography for male principal changed several times for various performers.

New Productions by Balanchine Companies: 1960, New York City Ballet, with costumes by Karinska (from Symphony in C).
