Music: By Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky (Meditation, Op. 42, no. 1, from Souvenir d'un Lieu Cher, three pieces for piano and violin, 1878, orchestrated by Alexander Glazounov).

Choreography: By George Balanchine.

Production: Costumes by Karinska.

Premiere: December 10, 1963, New York City Ballet, City Center of Music and Drama, New York. Conductor: Robert Irving. Violinist: Marilyn Wright.

Cast: Suzanne Farrell, Jacques d'Amboise.

Note: On the darkened stage a solitary young man enters and kneels. He is approached by a young woman who seeks to comfort him. They dance together and embrace; in the end she departs, and he is again alone.
