4. POÈME

Music: By Zdenĕk Fibich.

Choreography: By George Balanchine.

Production: Costumes by George Balanchine.

Premiere: Concert at the Theater (Ballet) School sometime prior to Balanchine's graduation on April 4, 1921.

Cast: Alexandra Danilova?, George Balanchine.

Note: The woman wore a light-blue tunic. It is not certain that Danilova danced the first performance of this work, but both Marietta Frangopoulo, Curator of the Museum of the Vaganova Academy, and Vera Kostrovitskaya, a slightly younger colleague of Balanchine's at the ballet school, have described Danilova in this ballet. She and Mikhail Dudko danced it at the Donon Restaurant, Petrograd, in 1923, and it was also included on the first Evening of the Young Ballet, June 1, 1923. The ballet continued to be performed for many years in the Soviet Union. The Soviet dance historian Vera Krasovskaya danced it at a school concert about 1932.
