Music: By Giuseppe Verdi (ballet music from Don Carlos, Act III, produced 1867, with some additions from the same score).

Choreography: By George Balanchine.

Production: Costumes by Ben Benson. Lighting by Ronald Bates.

Premiere: January 12, 1978, New York City Ballet, New York State Theater. Conductor: Robert Irving. (Preview: Opening Night New York City Ballet Gala Benefit, November 15, 1977.)

Cast: Merrill Ashley, Robert Weiss; Debra Austin, Bonita Borne, Stephanie Saland, Sheryl Ware; 12 women.

Note: Although plotless, references through lighting and costumes allude to the original tale of a fisherman's search for the perfect pearl.
