Music: By Erik Satie (unpublished piano score for pantomime, 1899; orchestrated after Satie's death in 1925 by Darius Milhaud).

Choreography: By George Balanchine.

Production: Scenery and costumes by André Derain. Scenery executed by Prince A. Schervashidze; costumes executed by La Maison Jules Muelle.

Premiere: June 8, 1926, Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, Théâtre Sarah-Bernhardt, Paris. Conductor: Roger Desormière.

Cast: The Puppet, Stanislas Idzikowsky; The Black Dancer, Alexandra Danilova; 2 Dancers (women); 2 Cloud Bearers (men).

Note: The principal dancer is a comic puppet with whom the Black Dancer and two others perform as if they are attending a ball. In the background large cardboard clouds are moved by mimes.
