7. WALTZ AND ADAGIO

Music: By George Balanchine.

Choreography: By George Balanchine.

Premiere: April 9, 1922, Theater (Ballet) School graduation performance, State Theater of Opera and Ballet (formerly Maryinsky), Petrograd [?]

Cast: Olga Mungalova, Pëtr Gusev.

Note: Information about the premiere was supplied by Gusev, a contemporary of Balanchine's at the ballet school, in an unpublished interview with Poel Karp; however, the work does not appear on the printed program. A performance by Alexandra Danilova and Balanchine was reviewed on June 11, 1922, and the work is known to have been performed on the first Evening of the Young Ballet, June 1, 1923, probably by Gusev and Mungalova, who performed in the Young Ballet's first concert and often danced together. There are pictures of the two in this work dated 1923.
