Premiere information and original casting are given by Mikhailov in My Life in Ballet. Possibly this is the same dance as Valse [8.1]. Balanchine thought this was probably first performed at Pavlovsk, where there was an open-air platform for performances. The ballet was danced by the Principal Dancers of the Russian State Ballet during the tour of Germany in the summer of 1924. The music had been used by Fokine for Le Spectre de la Rose (1911), which Balanchine staged and performed in Copenhagen in 1930.
