Michel Fokine’s last ballet, Helen of Troy (choreographed to excerpts from Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène), was completely rechoreographed by David Lichine, whose version was first performed by Ballet Theatre at the Masonic Auditorium, Detroit, November 29, 1942. Before the New York performances in April 1943, Balanchine assisted Lichine in devising a new ending for the ballet and made a few changes for Zorina.
