On February 20, 1953, Tanaquil Le Clercq and Jacques d’Amboise led some five hundred couples in a promenade arranged by Balanchine for the Negro Debutante Ball, at the 369th Armory, Harlem, New York City, an event sponsored by the New Amsterdam News.
