33. Pas de Deux 1924
Alexander Glazounov (slow movement from Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op. 82, 1904)
George Balanchine
May 7, 1924, State Theater of Opera and Ballet (formerly Maryinsky), Petrograd
Elizaveta Gerdt, Mikhail Dudko
Performance Type
Ballet
Note
This pas de deux followed a performance of La Bayadère at a benefit for Elizaveta Gerdt. Balanchine and Gerdt then danced a pas de deux (excluding the male variation) to the music of Nicolas Tcherepnine’s Le Pavillon d’ Armide, which may or may not have had choreography by Balanchine: Gerdt’s variation was by Fokine, who had choreographed a complete ballet to this music in 1907; Balanchine’s contribution, if he made one, would have been the opening adagio and the closing coda.
