In honor of Balanchine's Centennial, at the invitation of Mary Sharp Cronson, producer of "Works and Process," the George Balanchine Foundation is designing four programs, to be given in 2003-2004, that focus on Balanchine's choreography. The presentations are based on the idea behind the Foundation's Video Archives, which capture the coaching of noted Balanchine dancers as they set roles Balanchine created for them on dancers of today.

The programs are:

"Balanchine's Lost Choreography," November 16 and 17, 2003, with Maria Tallchief coaching an excerpt from the original Le Baiser de la Fee (1937) and Frederic Franklin coaching a pas de deux from the original Mozartiana (1933/45). Dancers: Jenifer Ringer, Nikolaj Hubbe, and Miranda Weese, New York City Ballet.

"Balachine's Choreography: Early Years," January 25 and 26, 2004, with Todd Bolender coaching the Phlegmatic variation from The Four Temperaments and Peter Martins coaching an excerpt from Apollo. Dancers: Arch Higgins and Charles Askegard, New York City Ballet as well as Ethan Stiefel, American Ballet Theatre.

"Balanchine's Choreography: Middle Years," March 7 and 8, 2004, with Maria Tallchief coaching solos from Firebird and Melissa Hayden coaching excerpts from Donizetti Variations. Dancers: Gillian Murphy and Marcelo Gomes, American Ballet Theatre; Patricia Barker, Pacific Northwest Ballet.

"Balanchine's Choreography: Late Years," April 18 and 19, 2004, with the original leading dancers of Violin Concerto, Karin von Aroldingen, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Peter Martins, and Kay Mazzo. Dancers TBA.
